Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Sage Call group work?
At Sage we have six dedicated maternity care doctors who are excited to help ensure you have a happy, healthy pregnancy. When you book your first appointment, you will be booked in to see next available Sage Physician who fits your schedule. You can also request a specific physician if you would like. During your pregnancy, you can choose if you would like to stick to one doctor for all your appointments, or if you would like to have appointments with different doctors. Many women enjoy the continuity of having one doctor provide the majority of their prenatal care and then to meet the other doctors later in their pregnancy
At all times, one of our doctors are on call at Whitehorse General Hospital. When you come to the hospital for your delivery (or for any other pregnancy related concerns), our on call physician will meet you there to provide assessments, medical care and other supports as needed.
How do I make an appointment?
Just give us a call! You do not need a referral from another doctor to make an appointment with a Sage Maternity Physician. You can simple call us at 393-6600, option 3 to book your appointment
When should I book my first appointment?
As soon as you find out you are pregnant! We are happy to see you early in your pregnancy to discuss how things are going and give you an introduction for what to expect as you move through your pregnancy. At your first appointment, your Sage Maternity Physician will review your medical history and talk to you about how things are going in your pregnancy. You will have a chance to ask any questions at this time. We will also review recommended prenatal blood work and book your dating ultrasound at your first appointment.
Even if you are not pregnant but would like to become pregnant, you can book an appointment with Sage Physician to discuss how to optimize your health before becoming pregnant.
How often will I have prenatal appointments?
In a healthy pregnancy, you will be seen for routine check ups every 4 weeks from the time you find out you are pregnant until you are 28 weeks along. You will be seen every 2 weeks until you are 36 weeks along and then you will be seen weekly until your baby is born. You can book appointments to speak to a Sage Physician at any time between your routine visits if you have questions or concerns.
When will I get my Ultrasounds?
You will be offered two routine ultrasound in your pregnancy. The first is your dating ultrasound, which is done in the first trimester after 7 weeks to confirm your due date. You will also be offered an anatomic ultrasound at 18-22 weeks to have a look at baby and make sure everything is developing normally and to check where your placenta is. The second ultrasound is where you can find out the sex of your baby (if you want to know)!
